Following a bunch of people on Twitter usually gets you some followers back. But these followers don’t provide any value to your restaurant or food truck and they likely aren’t going to be your customer. There are however several great ways to get valuable and relevant people to follow you on Twitter.
Use these 6 strategies to get your restaurant or food truck more Twitter followers.
Post Great Content Often
No one is going to follow you if you aren’t actively posting great content, and often. You should be posting everyday with daily specials, new menu offerings and pictures of freshly made dishes.
Tweet more often on the weekend. Twitter engagement is higher on weekends and more people are looking to eat out or order in their food. Twitter engagement can be up 17% higher on weekends for brands.
Twitter Only Promotions
Give people an incentive to follow you on Twitter as well as reward your current followers. In a recent study, 94% of Twitter users said that they would follow a brand for discounts and promotions.
- Promote your daily specials
- Give followers a special deal or coupon for mentioning your restaurant on Twitter
- Ask people to post a picture of them at your restaurant and offer one winner a gift card
- Get customers to tweet about their meal for a chance to win a prize
Use Hashtags
Tweets with hashtags can get up to 2x more engagement than those without a hashtag. Limit your hashtags to 1 or 2 per post and make sure they are relevant each and every time.
Hashtag your specials, promotions and your restaurant. Look to see what is trending on Twitter and use any of those hashtags that can be relevant to your restaurant in order to gain more exposure to your tweet.
Put Widgets or Links on Your Website
Putting Twitter widgets, or links, on your website is a great way to get more relevant followers. Place the widget or link where people can easily find it on your website and, if you want to, give people an incentive to click ‘follow’.
People who find your website first are hugely valuable to have follow you on Twitter because you know that they’re already interested in what you have to offer and are located close enough to your restaurant to become a customer.
Engage With Your Customers
Engaging with your customers on Twitter is a great strategy to make them feel more special and wanted.
- Answer customers questions that they post
- Reply to anyone posting about your restaurant and their experience
- Like and retweet positive reviews from customers
- Apologize to anyone with a negative tweet about your restaurant (you could also offer them a free appetizer next time they come in)
Ask For Retweets
And finally, simply ask people for retweets. Your tweets have a 12x higher chance of being retweeted by others if you ask for it. Actually spelling out the word ‘retweet’ gives your tweets a 23x higher chance of being retweeted. Getting people to spread the word about your restaurant or food truck is a great way to get more exposure and gain more followers.
